Soccer Team Wins First Round Game

The St. Joseph’s Academy soccer team opened Division I-Class 5A playoff action with a 2-0 victory over East Ascension. The game was held February 5 in Gonzales.

“I could not have been prouder of the way they played.” Craig Winchell, head soccer coach

Erica Allen and Leah Aultman accounted for the two scores, and the Red Dawg defense shut down the 16th seeded EAHS offense.

With the victory, the team moves into the regional round and will face Fontainbleau, the number one seed. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 10, at 2 p.m. at the Burbank soccer complex.

“The girls put a complete, whole game together at the perfect time,” said head coach Craig Winchell. “It was easily the best total game we played all year. Against a strong East Ascension team, the girls came out and played with spirit, aggressiveness and pride and controlled the game both offensively and defensively. I could not have been prouder of the way they played.  Hopefully we can come out and play the same way during the regionals later this week.”
