Coaches Association Honors Volleyball Players

Four members of the St. Joseph’s Academy volleyball team were recognized by the Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association (LVCA) at its annual awards banquet, held January 31 at Drusilla Place.

“I am extremely proud of what these student-athletes achieved this season...” Sivi Miller, head volleyball coach

Senior Cori Martone was named Outstanding Player of the Year for Large Schools (Division I & II). Senior Kristen Armstrong was named the winner of the Kathy Trosclair Memorial Award. Martone and seniors Caroline May and Ashley Legendre were selected to the LVCA All-State Volleyball Team.

“It was a true honor to have three players on the all-state team, the outstanding player in the large school division and the Kathy Trosclair Memorial Award recipient,” said SJA head volleyball coach Sivi Miller, who is president of the LVCA. “I am extremely proud of what these student-athletes achieved this season, and I know that they honor their teammates for their hard work, as well.”

The Kathy Trosclair Memorial Award is given to a senior who demonstrates a genuine love of volleyball, unselfish support of her coach and teammates, leadership, spirit and sportsmanship. Trosclair was a long-time high school and college coach at Tulane University. Miller, as well as former SJA coach Brenda LeBlanc, both played for Trosclair at Tulane.

Armstrong, who overcame two surgery-requiring knee injuries to play volleyball at SJA, said she was proud to be named the winner of the memorial award. “Although it was given because I faced so many ‘adversities,’ to me, coming back strong wasn’t an adversity by any means,” Armstrong said. “It was purely for the love of the game and playing with amazing teammates and coaches.”

May said she was honored to be named to the all-state team. “The banquet was very special, and it was great to see so many players and friends being honored for their achievements,” she said.
